Position Summary
The Assistant Photo Manager Sales directly assists the Photo Manager in leading the
the operation to create warm and personal photography experiences that our guests can use to
celebrate and share their cruise vacation. They accomplish this by training their teams of
photo staff on how to capture and engage our guests in a variety of settings to produce high
quality products sold in our Photography storefront.
The Assistant Photo Manager Sales primary responsibility is to oversee the entire sales
operation of a multifaceted department that includes several different Photo businesses
including Portrait, Souvenir, and Wedding photography along with managing a full retail
store and aiding the Photo Manager in administering all sales-related training. Driving
revenue and guest satisfaction in all department areas to achieve budgeted goals, with
some involvement in day-to-day administration.
In order to consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product
and services, additional duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Essential Functions
Drive sales and customer satisfaction within the Photo Gallery.
• Ensure customer service is always of the highest level, through monitoring, training,
coaching and developing the team, and leading by example.
• Supervise staff to achieve sale targets each voyage; recommends constructive
course correction and implements increased coaching when a staff member
consistently underperforms.
• Deliver regular team training in conjunction with Photo Manager as well as one on
one coaching session and use on-the-job coaching skills to continuously improve
team sales abilities and engagement and drive revenue and guest satisfaction scores
beyond budgeted goals.
• Conduct MPEC with Manager supervision
• Successfully complete wedding event coverage, delivering an excellent level of service,
product and sales.
• Conduct regular staff meetings under the manager’s direction to communicate new
initiatives and procedures, discuss issues, coordinate solutions as well as deliver
high energy and pre-shift briefings with the expectations for the shift by way of
positive reinforcement.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to thoughtfully complete accurate, detailed, and
timely appraisals to encourage their team to achieve established goals and objectives
and to be prepared for advancement opportunities.
• Collaborate with Photo Manager to complete timely and accurate end-of-cruise
reports with detailed and qualitative comments, communicating revenue issues or
opportunities and successes in relation to the Sales operation.
• Regularly recommend innovative marketing opportunities, products, and operational
efficiencies to Photo Manager and respective Fleet Photo Manager. Collaborates with
Photo Manager to determine best practices for upcoming trades.
• Ensure image quality is maximized by giving feedback on Photographer performance
and final print quality arriving in the Gallery from the Lab to the Photo Manager and
Assistant Photo Manager (Production) daily.
• Ensure all photographs are displayed/sorted in the photo binder system in a timely
manner and ensure the photo display panels/binders are kept neat, organized, and
presentable as per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ensure Digital Kiosks are operating correctly daily. Report any issues to the Systems
Manager and notify Photo Manager and Assistant Photo Manager Production.
• Develop, implement, and maintain all retail displays as per approved marketing
activations/promotions available on the box and via SOPs.
• Manages all Retail inventory processes as per Operating Procedures.
• Ensures all loss prevention protocols are in place and comply with company
operating procedures.
• Implement marketing strategy, including FSD inserts, blurbs, announcements, cabin
drops, and retail activations as per the cruise planner.
• Prepare and maintain all department signage, and ensure accuracy, consistency, and
compliance with current corporate branding guidelines.
• Charge all pre-paid and house account charges in a timely and accurate manner each
cruise (These duties are to be carried out in conjunction with the assistant Photo
Manager Production).
• Check company emails daily, responding when required in a timely and professional
manner.
• Conduct educational seminars for guests to promote Photo Department services and
products.
• Take ownership of and handle effectively any guest requests (onboard or shore-side
referrals), complaints, and questions (photo department and general shipboard
issues) at any time, escalating to the Photo Manager when deemed necessary.
• Regularly review service procedures, and proactively find ways to improve service
levels and prevent customer service issues from arising.
• Ensure continuous adherence of the whole team to company uniform, grooming
standards, and Platinum Standards & Impressions through monitoring, coaching, and
course correction as required.
• Always follow timekeeping rules and maintain accurate timesheet records.
Participate in GM meetings, walk-arounds, cabin inspections, and safety meetings as
delegated by Photo Manager.
• Monitor team timesheets for accuracy and compliance with company regulations.
• Act as Manager on Duty for Photo Gallery and Photo Events
• Photograph any events and or Portrait locations as requested by the Photo Manager.
• Administer any required and relevant offloads.
• Attend drills and training sessions as required, prepare and submit weekly Photo
Department drill excuse list as per the working schedule and ensure staff attendance
as required.
• Always protect all company inventory and equipment through proper handling and
security procedures.
• Promote the Photo Department through onboard functions (VIP party, Latitudes
party, Photo events, etc.) and by way of positive guest interactions whenever in
public areas.
• Construct positive working relationships with other department heads onboard and
liaise with them to assist with guest service requests, internal activities, and cross-
promotions and photo coverage/opportunities.
- Ensure departmental compliance with all hotel practices and shipboard operations by
reporting to the Photo Manager any non-compliant practices.
• Ensure the "staff documents" folder is up to date (e.g.: Timesheets, Camera Contracts,
Disciplinary Records, etc.)
• Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific
duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically
related to the position.
• Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS,
and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
Qualification
- Minimum one year of supervisory or mentorship experience in a retail sales
environment experience is required.
• Minimum one-year experience as a shipboard photographer
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Adobe
Photoshop, Lightroom, and MXP are required.
- Knowledge and experience to operate other advanced computer systems, touch-
screen kiosks and perform basic computer troubleshooting procedures are
preferred.
- Have available at least 1 x department-approved camera body, maintained in full
working conditions at the owner’s expense.
• Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of
English grammar is required.
